Frequently asked questions & answers

Do you accept insurance?

I currently accept Optum, United Healthcare, and Medicare. I am out-of-network with all other insurance plans. I will provide you with a superbill for each session that you can apply toward your deductible or submit to your insurance for partial reimbursement if you have out-of-network benefits for behavioral health services. A superbill is a detailed receipt that includes diagnostic codes and procedural codes.

What are your typical fees?

Dr. Igelman's fee is $195 per 50-minute individual session; the initial intake session fee is $225. Sessions involving more than one person are $250 per 50-minute session. Couples therapy sessions are $250 per 50-minute session and $325 per 90-minute session.

Do you offer sliding scale services or no cost services?

A limited number of sliding scale and no cost therapy appointments are available. This can be discussed prior to scheduling your session. Proof of income is required as part of the application process.

What are the length and frequency of sessions?

Standard therapy sessions are 50 minutes in length and take place weekly, although frequency may vary depending upon needs of the client. Often a minimum of 12 sessions is needed in order to successfully reach treatment goals. Length of treatment will vary depending upon presenting problems and goals in treatment.

Do you offer weekend appointments?

Weekend appointments are not available at this time.

What ages do you work with?

Dr. Igelman treats tweens, teens, and adults of each life stage. When treating children under the age of 18, parents are an integral part of the treatment process and will be asked to participate in the therapy process via telephone check ins or as a part of the therapy sessions.

What are the benefits of walking during therapy?

Exercise in therapy has been shown to decrease symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress. Additional benefits include improved mood and sleep patterns; increases in self-esteem, energy, and focus; and greater creativity.

Do I have to run?

No, just being outside and getting your body moving have tremendous mental health benefits. You do not need to be a runner or even enjoy running to benefit from Beach Walk Talk therapy.

What if I don't want to be on the sand?

No problem! There are many different options for where we can do run or walk therapy. If you don't want to be on the sand, we can use walking or bike paths. One of my favorite places to run is at the Dana Point Harbor where there are lots of beautiful paths along the water. Other locations include the San Clemente Pier or Strands Beach.

What if it is rainy or cold?

Even in Southern California, weather happens! If the weather is incompatible for an outdoor session, we can meet in my office, by phone, or reschedule the appointment.

Can we meet in your office instead?

Yes, of course! I have an office available for more traditional office-based therapy sessions. You may choose to request some sessions in-office and others at the beach. It is up to you. First sessions are always held in my office in San Clemente.

What if I can't talk and run at the same time?

We will walk or run at a pace that is comfortable for you. You are in charge of how fast or slow we go.
